Relationship Management
6315 W. Foster Branch Dr.
Pendleton, IN 46064
765-778-8749
In today's world, there is a need for authenticity in organizations. People don't bring their true sense of self to work and wonder why they lack a passion for what they do. Organizations are then left trying to account for low morale and productivity. Corporations are also plagued with unproductive meetings and unresolved conflict, direct results of unauthentic dialogue amongst its members. This impacts organizational effectiveness, efficiency and overall business success.
Michele is aware of this need and specializes in facilitating workshops, teams, and coaching individuals in relationship management. She works with individuals at all levels of continuum-Intrapersonal-Interpersonal-Team and Group-Organization-and covers topics such as dialogue, team building, diversity, situational leadership and the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), to name a few. Her courses are highly experiential, utilizing hands-on exercises to illustrate learning points and move participants through the stages of UNAWARENESS -> AWARENESS -> PRACTICE -> INTEGRATION quickly. In turn, this increases participant transfer of training back to the workplace. She will also tailor each learning event to meet your organization or team's specific needs.
She focuses on the individual uniqueness and commonality employees bring to the workplace and how they can better appreciate, celebrate, and utilize these similarities and differences to succeed in their interactions and improve the bottom line. Her passion for creating a rewarding work experience is evident within minutes of meeting her and her presentations leave you inspired to instill change both personally and professionally.
Michele is certified to administer and conduct feedback sessions on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), renowned as one of the most valid and reliable personality instruments worldwide. Knowledge of the MBTI dimensions, one's individual preferences, and how people differ on the four scales can have a dramatic impact on employee, management and customer relations, teamwork, and ultimately organizational success.
Some examples of Michele's facilitated workshops include:
Michele has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Indiana University, with minors in Sociology and Business. Her graduate work was in Industrial/Organization Psychology at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis, where she specialized in Organizational Behavior. After graduate school, she began her federal career as a labor relations specialist with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). Working in management and employee relations for two years gave her many opportunities to evaluate employee and organizational communication problems.
She transitioned to their Training Department and committed herself to facilitating better work relations corporate-wide. She has been a dedicated and well-respected trainer, facilitator, and personal coach within the organization the past six years. She is also an integral part of a team that developed and facilitated a local leadership development course internationally recognized by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) in 1998 in its "Managing Change" category. Her team was the only government entity recognized.

Authentic Dialogue
"The way we change our organizations is by changing our conversations."
Peter Block
When asked, "What is the biggest challenge you face as a company?", most organizations would mention communications at the top of their list. In actuality, corporations don't suffer from communication problems; they suffer from lack of communication. Why is this the case? Perhaps it's because most conversations end up a discussion rather than a dialogue. Discussion, similar in form to discussion, is defined by Webster's dictionary as a written or spoken orderly treatment of any subject, verbal exchange of ideas. Dialogue, on the other hand, is defined as a literary work in conversational form.
As part of this seminar, individuals will discover the difference between discussion and dialogue. They will also participate in numerous interactive exercises that illustrate typical hinderances to authentic dialogue and effective communication. Participants will be introduced to the two deadly barriers that inhibit communication from occurring in the first place as well as what gets in the way should communication take place at all. Practical tools will also be presented and practiced which will help overcome the barriers to initiating communication and maintaining it effectively.
Participants will also discuss typical mental models, or mental tapes, that tend to get in the way of authentic dialogue as well as ways to disarm such tapes.
COURSE BENEFITS: Individuals will be better equiped to:
- Initiate "uncomfortable" conversations
- Improve their effectiveness as a communicator
- Get the most out of their interactions with others
- Transition an unsuccessful conversation into a successful one
COURSE OUTLINE:
- · Authentic dialogue overview
- Two deadly barriers that inhibit communication
- Practical tools to overcome those barriers
- Causes of ineffective communication
- Methods that increase effectiveness
- Mental models that decrease success in our interactions

Introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)
"When people differ, a knowledge of type lessens friction and eases strain. In addition, it reveals the value of differences. No one has to be good at everything." Isabel Briggs Myers
In this highly interactive course, participants will be introduced to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), the most widely used psychological instrument in the world. The theory behind this highly valid and reliable instrument came from Swiss physician-psychologist Carl Jung. He believed people could be identified by their different and valuable preferences for understanding and viewing both the world and themselves. The MBTI was developed over a 30 year span by Isabel Briggs Myers as a practical application tool to assess the different psychological types Jung identified. The MBTI is based on Jung's theory that individuals will organize information and perceive the world in different ways based on the following eight preferences:
Extraversion or Introversion (EI) - This scale indicates a person's primary orientation: an active orientation to the outer world, or a reflective orientation to the inner world.
Sensing or Intuition (SN) - This scale shows a person's preferred mode of perception: attention to details, facts & the present, or attention to possibilities, theory & the future.
Thinking or Feeling (TF) -- This scale identifies a person's preferred basis for decisions: logical analysis or personal values.
Judging or Perceiving (JP) -- This scale reveals whether a person favors a lifestyle that is more decisive and planned or a lifestyle that is more flexible and spontaneous.
Participants complete the MBTI instrument and return it prior to the course. They will then experience the eight psychological dimensions in action during the session. This intense learning experience consists of real-life exercises, discussion, and application to both the home and work environment. Based on self-selected preferences, people receive a four-letter "type" designation. There are sixteen personality type possibilities. The four-letter type preferences are then further validated by each participant's personal interpretation of his/her results.
COURSE BENEFITS: An understanding of personality type will help participants:
- Foster self-awareness and increase appreciation of others
- Capitalize on employee strengths to improve teamwork, decrease conflict, and lead to better work relations
- Better communicate, leading to improved morale, productivity, as well as increased efficiency and effectiveness
COURSE OUTLINE:
- Overview of MBTI theory and the course set up
- Exercise, discussion, and application points for each of the eight preferences
- Dialogue around overriding needs and frustrations of each personality type

The Temperament Challenge (What motivates different types of people?)
"You do not lead by hitting people over the head - that's assault, not leadership."
Dwight David Eisenhower
This course is a natural follow-up to the Introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Course participants will take the next step in personality awareness, understanding how the MBTI's eight personality dimensions interact to further explain human behavior and motivation. Individuals will be exposed to David Kiersey's four temperament styles and experience the differences first-hand through facilitated exercises and activities.
As a result of attending this session, individuals will gain a basic understanding of what each temperament values most, what motivates them, and what will most likely cause conflict when dealing with each of them. They will also learn how to better communicate, persuade, and work with individuals similar and different from themselves. Participants will leave the session viewing "difficult" people as "different" and with insight into how to better relate with them. A brief summary of the different temperaments follows:
Sensing Judging (SJ) - Respond to what needs to be done today in a careful, planful, and thorough way. Values the work ethic, productivity and efficiency.
Sensing Perceiving (SP) - Quick to respond to the immediate needs of a given situation. Values handling situations in an expeditious, out-of-the ordinary way.
Intuitive Feeling (NF) - Insightful and focuses on what is beneficial to people and the common good. Values personal growth, development and community values.
Intuitive Thinking (NT) - Focuses on competence, working with theoretical concepts, ideas, structures, and situations. Values using ingenuity, logic, and strategic analytical style to solve problems.
COURSE BENEFITS: Participants will be able to:
- Understand basic human personality differences
- Better appreciate individual personalities unlike themselves
- Work more effectively with others
- Defuse possible conflict situations
- Improve communications with internal and external customers
COURSE OUTLINE:
- Overview of Temperament theory and the course set up
- Exercise, discussion, and application points for each of the four temperaments
- Dialogue amongst participants regarding what they need: to contribute effectively to the organization, work as a member of a team, and to feel valued as a individual
- Practical exercise in persuading/selling others unlike yourself on a given topic

Synergy through Diversity
"When we think about the variety of gifts people bring to corporations and institutions, we see that the art of leadership lies in polishing and liberating and enabling those gifts."
Mac DePree, "Leadership is an Art"
Statistics show that the composition of the workforce is changing at a rapid pace, becoming more diverse every day. Cultures and organizations that celebrate and capitalize on this diversity will thrive and flourish while those that attack and evade individual differences will fail.
Typical diversity courses tend to concentrate on only one general type of diversity, physical diversity, which is the type of diversity most commonly dealt with from an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) standpoint. While physical types of diversity are important, they only touch the tip of the iceberg in regards to human diversity.
This dynamic, introspective course speaks to the full range of diversity, going beyond basic EEO diversity classifications of gender, race/ethnicity, and age. Participants will investigate their own personal placement on the diversity continuum, which ranges from attacking the differences to celebrating them. They will also experience activities designed to touch on basic areas of diversity and participate in discussions around how ignorance to them can destroy an organization.
COURSE BENEFITS: This course will help participants:
- Increase their knowledge and understanding of the three diversity
categories
- Become better aware of other's differences
- Enhance their ability to manage relationships
- Capitalize on workforce diversity to ensure organizational success
COURSE OUTLINE:-
- Purpose of the session
- Diversity continuum
- Exercise (What it takes to understand diversity)
- Necessity of diversity for survival
- Defining diversity
- Three general diversity categories
- Physical
- Personal Preferences
- Experiences
- Experiencing the three diversity categories through
- Video tape and discussion
- General discussion
- Personal activity
- Readdress the diversity continuum
